Christchurch, located on the east-central coast of the south island, is known as <i>The Garden City</i>. Christchurch was established in 1856, making it the oldest city in New Zealand. Centrally located is Hagley Park, which includes the Botanic Gardens (pictured). The Avon River runs through the 74 acre gardens.
